The most important event of the term was the official opening of the School by Earl Alexander of Tunis. There were many other dignitaries present and Big School was filled to capacity with boys, parents and others connected with the school.
Earl Alexander of Tunis served as the guest of honour at the official opening of the new school buildings. Accompanied by dignitaries including Sir William Hart and the Mayor of Croydon, the Earl inspected the CCF Guard of Honour before unveiling a commemorative plaque.
During the assembly in Big School, Sir James Marshall praised the architect, Mr Lowe, noting the buildings were essential for progress. Earl Alexander responded by commending Croydon’s development and the school's quality. Finally, the Headmaster thanked the governors for their financial support and paid tribute to the Earl's military service, noting the event coincided with Europe Day.
