2022: A Season of History

A season full of highlights for all three senior teams culminated in a moment that will live forever in Trinity history.

When the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd XVs all delivered emphatic performances against Cranleigh and Langley early in the season, we knew something special was building. But what followed exceeded even our highest expectations.

For the 1st XV, the wins in front of home support against Whitgift and Berkhamsted were pivotal. In the final week of term, with the Sixth Form roaring them on, the game against an in-form Berkhamsted hung in the balance for an agonisingly long time. We proved ourselves that day not just as players, but as a team, defending like warriors to secure the result.

The Cup Run The road to Twickenham was grueling. Every round presented a new, tough challenge. But it’s hard to top the feeling when the final whistle blew at the home of rugby. Seeing the pure joy on the boys’ faces—knowing the work that went into it and what it meant to them—is a feeling that will stay with me for a long time.

The Toughest Moment Losing on the last play of the game in our season opener against Cranleigh was about as gutting a loss as I have experienced. However, it became the defining moment of the season. It allowed the team to show their true character. They didn't crumble; they stuck together, worked even harder, and came through it as a united group.

Star Performers While the team boasts many great individual talents, the key to their success was how hard they worked for each other. Captain Archie Pearson deserves immense credit for fostering that selfless atmosphere within the squad.

Oliver German stands as an inspiring example to every student lower down the school. Having never played an 'A' team game from U12 through to U16, he started the season in the 2nd XV. Through sheer work ethic, he broke into the 1st XV after half-term and went on to play a key role in the 7s team’s run to the National semi-finals. His journey shows exactly where hard work can take you.

A Final Thought Coaching the 1st team this year has been one of the highlights of my career. From the first preseason session in July to the final whistle in March, they gave absolutely everything.

My favourite thing about this group isn't the trophy; it's the relationships they have built and the camaraderie they share. They have made friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
