Old Boy Looks Down Kindly on Trinity

It is a hot Monday evening in June on the playing fields of Trinity School. The silence is only broken by the occasional sound of willow on leather and then, for knowledgeable boys with keen hearing, the distinctive double-beat of an RAF helicopter in the far distance. A remote dot to the south begins to grow rapidly and within moments the 'H' shape laid out by the ground staff on the top field is overshadowed by the stirring presence of a Chinook helicopter from 27 Squadron, based at RAF Odiham. At least 120 Army, Navy and RAF cadets from the school's thriving CCF have been waiting eagerly for this moment: the highlight of the RAF Section's training programme.

The pilot, Flt Lt Jason Davenhill, told the Headmaster that he was delighted to be able to realise a long-held ambition to bring an RAF Chinook helicopter to the school. He had spent some very happy years at Trinity as a boy in the 1980s and it was great to be able to take part in the life of the school once more. He was keen to continue links with Trinity in the future.

The cadets were thrilled to get the chance to fly from the school grounds, and clear skies guaranteed the boys an amazing panorama from the Millennium Dome in the north to the North Downs in the south—an unforgettable experience for the boys.
